A slightly tipsy thought: there are probably a lot of Filipinos (and people in other tropical countries) who have never felt the primal comfort of a campfire. I've seen plenty of leaf burning and trash burning, but I've never seen people hanging out around a fire.
I wonder how big the effect is on someone who has never felt it.
I put in some supporting data, but that's spam. To sum up the data:
Studies show that campfires give people a subconscious psychological and physiological sense of comfort.

Where did you get this from? Filipinos DO go camping with campfires. Marshmallows, Kumbaya, the whole thing. It's banned in some protected areas and during certain seasons, though. But yeah, campfires are nothing foreign to Filipinos.
I tried it here and it wasn't fun at all. I was sweating like crazy. It's not the same as the cool nights back in the States
My wife's cousin and her family live in the mountains of Negros Oriental. It's cooler there, so they have a bonfire every night it doesn't rain. They love it
Campfires are awesome. You can have a group sitting around one go dead silent except for the sound of the fire and nature, everyone staring into the flames like they're lost in thought....it's a kind of meditation
All-night pig roasts are mostly a guy thing, but it's very similar
Those people have Denisovan genes, not Neanderthal genes like Westerners. Their ancestors weren't huddled around campfires during the ice age.
