Some of you got called out by that post, and it shows

That post dragging the scammed expats on here is basically a bunch of you getting a taste of your own medicine. It's making the rounds on social media and it's hilarious. I get that times are tough and scammers are everywhere, especially with the political climate, but if you were unpleasant to begin with, you can't go to Southeast Asia expecting honesty. Take a good look at who you are now, your intentions and your standards, and ask whether you'd even want yourself as a partner. If the ego is still there, think about how you'd feel seeing your daughter with someone who looks and acts like you.

To the expats who do have good, healthy relationships, congratulations. At least some people are happy!

Can I ask why it matters? Why is everyone so invested in other people's relationships? Good, bad, transactional, if it doesn't directly affect you, why does it matter? So weird.

You think way too much about other people's relationships. Tells me you're not in one yourself.

Same-age couples

I have the happiest of marriages, and our age gap is a whole 5 days. There were times I carried us financially, and now that we're in the Philippines she mostly carries us. She makes the money and I grow nearly all the food we eat. My beef is definitely not with my wife, but with basically everyone else in this godforsaken country. I never want to hear how nice Filipinos are, because that view usually comes from serious ignorance.

Using each other

The reality is there are women everywhere who marry for money. Look at all the old rich guys who marry 20-year-old Instagram models. The thing is, the bar for being 'rich' enough in the US for a 20-year-old to be with some boomer is a lot higher. So you get old guys who are below average financially by US standards going to the Philippines and chasing women way out of their league and way younger. Both sides are using each other. There are plenty of single women in the Philippines who are age-appropriate and in their league, but instead they chase women who wouldn't look at them twice if she'd already been living in the US when they met. Zero self-awareness.

Filipinos posing?

Most people on this sub are actually Filipinos posing as foreigners and patting each other on the back, which makes it even funnier when you think about it. Pure comedy.

Of all the expat communities I know, the one in the Philippines seems the most toxic.
