I emailed FBU.Manila@ssa.gov with the following question. We've received our son's CRBA and passport. I know they need the original CRBA, the passport, and my passport, but I'm trying to confirm whether the SS-5 is the right form and which address to send the documents/form to.
But that email address sends back an automatic reply saying they can't answer anything related to xxxx, including SSA.
Does anyone know which email address to actually use, and/or whether the SS-5 form is right and where to send it?
Send your passport, the child's passport, the CRBA, and the SS-5. I used 2GO as the courier. I had the SS card sent to my US address. That comes by regular mail. The embassy will send your ID documents back by courier, probably LBC.
If you're living abroad, it's the SS-5-FS form.
Hi. We submitted all our documents, including the originals for verification. It took about 3 months before they got in touch to say they'd received the documents and were ready to verify them. The whole time, tracking showed them as delivered. We mailed everything in April, and even though tracking confirmed delivery after 4 days, we never got any confirmation from SS. We emailed and called several times, but unfortunately we couldn't get any confirmation. Honestly, we were worried the documents had been lost somewhere. Eventually they did call. From mailing the documents in April to getting the first call was around August. So if you're waiting, don't lose hope. They will contact you eventually. Keep your phone close and make sure you don't miss the call. In our case they usually called around 8 a.m. Philippine time.
Not sure where you're located, but if you sign up for STEP messages https://travel.state.gov/en/international-travel/travel-advisories/smart-traveler-enrollment-program.html you'll get notices about where Social Security will hold outreach events around the Philippines. They can handle it in person at those events.
