If you don't like it here on the Philippines_Expats subreddit, why not go back to your own subreddits? LBHO? Losers Back Home Online?

This is aimed at the non-expats who hang around this sub just to rant about expats.

Question for locals: Do you really think all expats are bad for your country? Would you rather they leave for the next best destination and cut ties with the Philippines for good?

There's an old saying: I know my sister is ugly, but I don't need you telling me she's ugly.

Young locals' resentment

A lot of the locals who complain about foreigners online are younger millennials or Gen Z. They feel their leaders have failed them, they're grinding away at jobs everyone tells them to be grateful for, and they keep being told to be resilient. On top of that, many are socially awkward and probably struggling in the dating market. So when they see a foreigner who isn't even wealthy back home winning at dating and carrying money most of them will never have, they don't have much patience for whining about roosters, jeepneys, or noise blasting at 10 p.m.

I think the thinking is simpler than that, and you see it in every country with immigrants — or expats, in this case. Locals accept their country's flaws, but they get annoyed when someone moves here by choice, knowing full well what it's like, and then insists on imposing their own standards on it anyway. I'd compare it to Western conservatives who dislike Muslim immigration without cultural assimilation. It's not the same, but it's a decent parallel for understanding where the feeling comes from. That said, there are also plenty of anti-foreigner people here, because we have a nationalist history (we fought three invaders, had a stretch of Filipino-first nationalism because our elites were and still are dominated by Chinese Filipinos, ended up with a nationalist constitution, etc.),

No, this is just people with eyes who've seen and lived it. The truth hurts, but it's true.
