I bought some specific camera gear on AliExpress. I could compare prices on Amazon and I knew the SKU and all that. I wasn't “guessing” at what I was buying. No problems at all. I didn't pay attention to delivery times, but it came from China in about a week.
Customs is the catch

It depends. It can get stuck at customs for a week or more. The trip isn't what takes long — it's the clearance.
Shopee & Lazada win

I used it all the time back in Australia. Here, once you factor in shipping, Lazada and Shopee are cheaper for everything.
Shopee ships from China too

A lot of Shopee stores are actually Chinese dropshippers, so it takes about two weeks.
