Visiting for the first time next year from the US – any tips, and how much money should I save?
The title says it all. Early next year I'm planning my first visit, for about two weeks. Since it's a pretty short trip, my plan is to fly into Cebu City and spend most of my time around there.
I'm just looking for tips, tricks, advice and things to do while I'm there. I'm also planning to have 62K pesos (1,000 USD) saved up. Is that too tight or too much for a two-week trip? Let me know!
Come on, man...... 1,000 for two weeks? You're going to fly 24 hours halfway around the world and then skimp? Can you do it on 60 USD a day? Sure, if you like everything cheap.
Like 99.9% of the posts here: is your accommodation paid for in advance? Are your flights paid for in advance? But really, if you need a budget to go on vacation, maybe you shouldn't be going on vacation. I'm not saying this as a multimillionaire; I'm saying it as a cheapskate who has money but just doesn't like spending it. If you want to spend 1,000 dollars in Cebu City over two weeks, yes, you can definitely do it. Would I? No
750 for each week you're staying should be plenty to go out and do things. The more you want to see and travel, the more you'll need per person. You should be able to eat as much as you want, get around on local transportation, and see some tourist attractions
Cebu City is the closest major city to me. And yet I've never looked at it like I was going to Prague or Warsaw or Amsterdam or anywhere in Europe that actually has culture and things to see. Magellan's Cross, that huge f*cking church, Lapu-Lapu's grave — all that crap can be done in one day. I'm trying to think of a crappier country for staying in a big city, and I honestly can't think of one. Even if you stay in Bombay or Delhi, there's something there. Here there's nothing. You might as well go to St. Louis.
