I'm planning to retire to the Philippines within the next 12 months, and I'm looking at Iloilo City. If you live there, could you tell me what it's like? Also, I don't want a condo — I want to rent a house. Would 250,000 pesos a month be enough to live comfortably? I'm 57 and don't have any major health problems. If you have any recommendations for hospitals or medical services, I'd appreciate those too.

You're almost there... Also take a look at Guimaras Island (2 hours from Iloilo airport). It has most modern conveniences like hospitals and decent shopping, and far less traffic (traffic is the number one complaint among foreigners living in the Philippines 🇵🇭) Worst traffic 🇵🇭

That's a little under 4,000 US dollars a month, or about 3,000 pounds in British money. If you assume an 8% return on invested capital, that means capital of about 600,000 dollars. Only about 0.5% of the Philippine population has that much money invested. If you really do have that much capital, I think you already know the answer to your question. Hardly any foreigners moving to the Philippines have an income anywhere near that.

I live in Iloilo... with my British husband. Do you know anyone here?

If you're a US veteran, for service-connected disabilities the VA may reimburse you even if you get treated at some hospitals outside the VA. You just submit the info and file a claim... For insurance, Pacific Cross is decent... With 250k, Dumaguete and Manila can be quite different... Enjoy exploring.. Getting a license isn't hard either.. Your home country driver's license is valid for 60 days, and after that you need a Philippine license and an ACR, after day 59.
