Questions for those who live in the Philippines, or who visit often and know the culture and religion well beyond the usual tourist experience.

I understand there is a public holiday in the Philippines at the end of March 2027.

How might this affect travel to Manila, Boracay, and other beach destinations?

I am especially curious about the effect on bars, restaurants, shopping malls, and other tourist attractions.

Thank you!!

Avoid Holy Week. The tourist spots, ports, and ferries are all way too crowded.

During Holy Week, plenty of places close on Thursday and Friday. Some reopen on Saturday, and most open on Easter Sunday. Last year BGC honestly felt like a ghost town, and then it came back to life on Sunday afternoon.

I'm here now in the 'ber' months (September to December), since the Christmas mood has started. There was also one from May 15 to June 15, a few months ago. Honestly I haven't noticed a big change yet. I heard some shops close on Christmas Day and over Easter weekend, but since it's a Christian country, that's something I expected.

Holy Week is a huge event here. Everything closes on Black Saturday and it's packed everywhere. It depends on where you are. In Pampanga you can see people being nailed to giant crosses, and there are people who cover their faces and whip their own bloodied backs on the street as penance. Other parts of the Philippines are less bloody, but you'll hear loud prayers, unusually loud videoke, and tons of people at the beaches on Sunday.
