How good is the medical care in the Philippines?
I'm looking into medical care in Thailand, Taiwan, and the Philippines. What experiences have you had with more holistic approaches, such as hormone testing or traditional medicine? I have a lot of chronic conditions.
Healthcare in Thailand is better. There are a few good hospitals in the Philippines too (St. Luke's in Makati comes to mind), but overall it falls well short of Thailand.
No. Just no. Some people have good experiences, but after living here for 20 years, hearing dozens of stories and experiencing serious symptoms a few times myself, it's just no. They don't know what they're doing.
My medical experience here was very good. I was able to see a specialist and get tests right away, and it's only two hours from Manila. In Canada and the US I received misdiagnoses, but here I finally resolved my chronic problem. The doctors were patient and listened carefully to the patient. I've heard they overcharge in emergencies, but otherwise it's very affordable. One downside is that even with an appointment they treat you like a walk-in, so you wait for hours. Still, that's better than waiting months. You can book online through the Now Serving app.
St. Luke's is really good, but here are the actual prices without insurance: - Pulmonology consultation: 1,000 pesos - CT scan: 16,779 pesos - Pulmonary function test: 12,000 pesos - Comprehensive cardiovascular checkup: 37,000 pesos
