I have a question about onward tickets (outbound flights) when entering the Philippines. I'm a permanent resident, so I've never had to use one myself, but my mother is coming in January for a two-month stay. I booked her a round-trip ticket to Cebu, plus a refundable ticket to Kota Kinabalu departing three weeks later. But someone told me that it's not enough to have a ticket out of the Philippines. They said she also needs a ticket out of the country that flight goes to before the airline will let her board the flight to the Philippines. Is that true? If so, would she need yet another ticket out of the country that flight goes to? Where does it end?
The reason they ask for an onward/return ticket is that the airline doesn't want to be stuck with the cost if you get denied entry. So this is all an airline issue. Of course, if you have a 'cheap' passport, you're more likely to get denied entry.
If your passport is weak, they might ask for a return ticket. A US passport isn't bad.
That's the first I've heard of that, and it wasn't my experience either.
Why didn't you wait until it was time for your mom to leave and buy her a throwaway ticket from onwardticket.com?
