Philippines Child SNS Ban 🇵🇭
The House wants to ban use only for under-13s, while the Senate wants to restrict it up to age 18.
Will it pass? And what age will they settle on? (Could they end up compromising on some age in between?)
Will it actually be enforced, and how?
It'll be interesting to see how this turns out.
Even if it passes, kids will just get around it. Australia banned social media for younger teens too, and kids are using VPNs and lying about their birthdays and doing just fine. It's nothing new. When I was 15, I clicked "Yes, I'm 18 or older" on Hub. No matter how hard companies try to block it, it's pointless these days.
All this will do is push kids into unmoderated chat rooms, and everyone else will just be annoyed by this nonsense. Still, I guess it's important to show that we're copying other countries' mistakes. We can't expect parents to act like parents.
South Korea has effectively restricted minors' internet access.
Set it at 21, make a valid ID scan mandatory for sign-up, and if people bypass the rules, there should be real penalties.
