Philippine Embassy in Korea Highlights Contributions of Filipino Skilled Workers Who Took Part in Building the BRP Rajah Humabon PS-22 Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV)
๐ฐ๐ท๐ต๐ญ | The Philippine Embassy in Korea has highlighted the contributions Filipino workers made to building the Philippine Navy's new warship. The BRP Rajah Humabon (PS-22) offshore patrol vessel (OPV), built by Filipino skilled workers and about to be born, is scheduled to be delivered to the Philippines by February 2027.
Philippine officials met with about 20 representatives of Filipino workers who live in southern Korea and work at HD HHI.
At HD Hyundai Heavy Industries in Ulsan, three 2,400-ton Sulayman-class offshore patrol vessels (OPVs) and the third and fourth ships of the 3,200-ton Miguel Malvar-class guided-missile frigates are being built. The same craftsmanship of the Filipino skilled workers at HD HHI will bring these new OPVs and frigates to life until they are delivered in 2028โ2029. Ships built by Filipinos, for Filipinos.
HD Hyundai PH, Subic. Imagine how many Miguel Malvar-class frigates they could build here at the same time once the yard is ready to build military-spec vessels. Maybe 2 to 4 in stages? This is the kind of defense procurement I can support, since the economy gets a return on investment (ROI). Next up is the multirole fighter. Something like setting up an aircraft maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) center and investing in the local aerospace industry.
This reminds me of the Battle of Yultong TikTok comment trend.
"Highlighting the contributions of the Filipino skilled workers who took part in the construction" Wow, it's really starting.
I hope this leads to knowledge and technology transfer so Filipino private companies can build ships more cheaply here at home.
