Pampanga Provincial Police Office warns of "basag-kotse" car break-in scheme

📌 On Sunday, October 11, the Pampanga Provincial Police Office (Pampanga PPO) posted on its official Facebook page a warning about the "basag-kotse" method, in which thieves smash the windows of parked cars and steal the items inside. Along with four preventive guidelines, including not leaving valuables in the car, the police office also provided a hotline number for reporting.

■ Preventive guidelines issued by the police
· Do not leave valuables in your car. Make sure phones, bags, and wallets are not visible from outside.
· Clear out your belongings before you arrive at the parking lot. Some people may watch for anyone who hides items after parking.
· Before leaving, double-check that all doors and windows are locked.
· Park in well-lit areas with CCTV or other security facilities.

■ Reporting
· If you see suspicious behavior or become a victim, the police office advises reporting to the Pampanga PPO hotlines at 0917-126-1993 and 0998-598-5448, or calling 911.

■ Notes for residents and travelers
· Do not leave bags in the back seat when getting out, even while waiting for a rental car or Grab.
· Put purchases from shopping mall or restaurant parking lots in the trunk, but arrange them beforehand so that the act of putting them in the trunk is not visible.
