I tried to get a driver's license in Ormoc yesterday, but they won't do it until I've been here 3 months. Fine, I can live with that. On top of that, I have a commercial license and can drive anything on the road. But my US license only says Class A and doesn't specifically say I can drive passenger vehicles. That's just how it works in the US. They told me my license has to specifically show passenger vehicles! This is nuts! I only want a standard car and motorcycle license. Any suggestions on how to get around this idiocy?
The endorsements are on the back. You just went to the wrong LTO — go to a different one
Hire a driver? That's our plan. Grab until then.
You won't get a commercial license here — it implies paid work, which means you'd need a work permit, the right visa, an employer, etc. But you can drive a 10-wheeler and most trucks on a regular license, probably not articulated ones though. I have them, but I always get a local driver, it's just less hassle.. They do list by class here too.. on the back.
Your foreign license is valid for 90 days. If it doesn't show cars, you may have to take a driving course and a test to get a license. It's pretty easy. I had to add motorcycles to my Philippine license — I took an easy course for part of a day and then went and took the test. Quick and easy
I've been researching this since we're about to move to Cavite. Everything I've seen says you can convert after 30 days in the country, as long as your visa is good for another 120 days.
