Hello, I joined this group not long ago and have only been to the Philippines once.

I have a question. Is there a professional expatriate community in Manila? Or are most of the foreigners there retired men?

I'm trying to understand how likely it is to find a job in the Philippines.

Thank you for sharing your experiences and insights.

It depends on your skills... If you have skills that are needed in the Philippines, you can find a job with a fairly good salary quite easily. I've been a foreigner living here for 13 years, worked for 11 and a half years, and I live quite comfortably... I spent the remaining 1.5 years getting my master's degree here. However, don't expect regular jobs like retail or BPO staff... there are plenty of skilled Filipinos for those. It's difficult, but not impossible.

Reality is tough.

The chance of getting a job here is almost zero.

Bring the work.

People either come to the Philippines to retire or bring their work with them. You earn in dollars and spend in pesos. Earning in pesos isn't really living. The percentage of people who come to the Philippines, legally work, and find a good-paying job is very small, like the odds of a kid becoming an NFL, NBA, or MLB player.
