📌 On the afternoon of Saturday, October 10, a moderate explosive eruption occurred at the Kanlaon Volcano on Negros Island, sending an ash plume 5 to 6 km above the summit crater. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) maintained Alert Level 2, with ashfall and sulfur odors reported in some villages.
■ What Changed
· The eruption ended at around 12:48 PM. Start times vary by report (12:46 PM according to GMA, and shortly before 12:30 PM according to Inquirer).
· The ash plume drifted north-northeast following the eruption.
· Prior to the eruption, PHIVOLCS recorded 16 volcanic earthquakes, sulfur dioxide emissions of 2,138 tonnes, a 900-meter-high plume drifting south, and volcanic edifice inflation.
· Alert Level 2 indicates an increase in unrest and remains in effect following this eruption.
■ Areas Reporting Ashfall
· The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) stated that ashfall and sulfur odors were reported in Barangay Ara-al, La Carlota City, and ashfall was reported in Barangays Igmayaan and Kumaliskis in Don Salvador Benedicto.
