Has anyone watched 'Michael Palin in the Philippines' yet? I'm a bit torn about it. I'm not sure opening with the slums of Tondo and pagpag food was the best approach for viewers who know nothing about the Philippines. Leaving politics aside, the segment with the president could have been cut, since it didn't really mean much. It neither added nor took away anything. The cut to Palawan and its beauty was good, and then came the nickel mine in a supposedly protected area. I've always liked his shows and I'm curious what the final episode brings. What's clear is that the series is far too short to paint a real picture, and if Michael were 20 or 30 years younger it would have been much better.
We don't have a TV. I'll look for it online. Thanks for the recommendation.
I don't watch any of those. They're mostly self-serving
People need to realize that most Filipinos live day to day.
Yeah, I saw it. Unfortunately it only showed the bad side of the Philippines
Haven't watched it, but I've read the reviews. If even half of what they say is right, Michael Palin relied on politically motivated local 'journalist' staff and ended up badly embarrassed compared to real life here in the Philippines. I feel bad for Michael. He probably thinks he's doing something good, but really he's just exposing how inadequate his support team is at checking and verifying before he opens his mouth.
For those of us who live here, there was nothing new. For a casual viewer it's an interesting look, but it lacks depth.
