If you live in the Philippines, do you really need to worry about dengue?

How serious is it? Is it common?

I almost died from dengue twice. The first time my platelets dropped to 10,000. So be careful, and put on mosquito repellent lotion when you need to!

The problem isn't the first infection. Well, mostly. The trouble starts when you get infected a second time with one of the other four types. I've had it once, and honestly I don't want to see what happens if I get it a second time.

It can get serious if you don't get treated. And it really depends on where you live.

I lived in Brazil for almost 10 years and it was much worse there. I personally know 5 people who died from dengue. I've lived here for 7 years and I don't know anyone who died from dengue.

The comments are all over the place. Yes, it can be very serious, and even when it isn't life-threatening you're sick and suffering for 1 to 3 weeks. How common it is depends on where you live, but I know someone living in BGC who caught it a few months ago. The vaccine isn't available in this country. Go to Thailand or another country to get it. There's a new vaccine that anyone can get. The old vaccine could only be given to people who had been infected before.
