Hi everyone, my father is elderly and has always wanted to live in the Philippines. He's in assisted living now and needs help with meals, cleaning and medication reminders, so this dream will probably never happen. But I'd still like to make it come true in some way. I'm wondering if there's a place with this level of care where he could stay for a short while. Probably 1 to 2 months, to escape some of the winter. Thanks in advance for any info.
EDIT. Thanks everyone. I'm looking for a place already set up for this kind of care, so I don't have to manage too much from far away. Not a big budget.
The hard part is getting him there, since it's about 24 hours of travel. I don't know what his assisted living costs now, but you could literally replace the whole setup: rent him a two-bedroom place (house, apartment or condo), pay all the utilities, hire a live-in caregiver and a live-out caregiver, cover all the food and transport, and it would probably cost less than half of what assisted living costs in the US.
The stress of the trip and the hot, humid weather alone could kill him in no time. Keep him where he is. He'll be comfortable and more likely to live longer.
Watch out for scams and scammers. Have family go with him for a short vacation. Nothing more. If he passed away there, it's very expensive to bring him home. Medical care is expensive and hard to access.
There's a 'Life Care Facility' in Cebu. If he needs care, maybe he could stay there and go on outings?
Ignore the first reply. A lot of expats left their brains back in their own country. And keep in mind a lot of them are here because they couldn't fit into society back home. Of course you could bring your father to the Philippines. He'd probably get better and cheaper care than he's getting there now. It's a long flight, so make sure he's okay with that. Since he's disabled, if you fly business or first class he'll be well looked after. God bless you for being the son you are!!
There's assisted living in Cebu and Davao. But if he doesn't want to stay in assisted living, try an Airbnb as close to a hospital as possible and on-call nurses. I understand him, winter is too depressing. That's why my parents decided to stay here for good, and I even invite my mother-in-law to stay here in winter.. Make sure he's healthy enough to travel. Starting a month before the flight, boost his immune system and have him take some probiotics too. It helps when he arrives. That's what I did for my family before we moved here. If you plan to come with your dad, that's good too.
