Some of it is right, some of it is overreacting. This is an emergency filter. It removes most coarse water problems like sediment. It doesn't remove microbes, which is why you boil afterward. In a pinch, this filter is great. The difference is that they're a business. They advertised a service, meaning they have an obligation to provide safely purified drinking water. That's the difference.

If we follow his logic, then home cooking should also have to follow the same hygiene standards as fast food restaurants 🤷

Bottled water should be strict.

It needs testing because they sell it to other people. If you're drinking it alone, nobody cares whether you drink bleach or muddy water.

I work at a water quality analysis lab, and what you said is correct. Commercial drinking water and water refill stations need strict, regular water quality testing for many parameters. They test monthly, quarterly, and annually, and it's quite expensive. But what they sell is usually distilled or purified water, and since it's mass-produced, it naturally needs strict standards. The product in question is meant for survival or emergencies. In reality, it doesn't take much for water to reach a level that's at least drinkable. This product carries the risk of microbes or heavy metals. But you're not supposed to keep drinking it that way anyway. Normally you should drink drinking water that meets standards. In short, they're meant for different uses.
