Do you think the Philippines is safe?
I wanted to go travel in the Philippines, but what I heard online worries me. Apparently foreigners who have done nothing wrong get locked up in Philippine jails because of police corruption, and some wait years before they even stand in front of a judge. Is this actually true, or is it something you all worry about too?

The most dangerous thing here is bumping your head on the top when getting into a jeepney.

If you treat others the way you want to be treated, there won't be any problems. Don't be foolish and flaunt cash, dress excessively, wear jewelry, or make yourself a target. Keep a low profile and live modestly. There's no problem. I love the Philippines.

First of all, I've lived here for 3 years, and you wrote that many foreigners have been jailed in the Philippines without doing anything wrong. I'm curious where you got that information. If someone was arrested, they must have done something wrong. Anyone giving that kind of information isn't telling the truth. And about those expats you mentioned, no matter where in the country you live, pretty much everyone knows the issues here. Before making claims like that, please show the evidence of the arrests and what the charges were. I've seen too many posts bashing the Philippines lately. If you don't like the Philippines or it's not the place for you, all I can say is there are other countries in Southeast Asia worth visiting.

It's much safer than Europe.

What worries me most about the legal system here is liability when driving. It's not presumed innocent. It's presumed guilty until proven otherwise.
