Hello everyone, my husband is a U.S. citizen and I hold dual citizenship. We are currently living in the United States. I'm planning to apply for a Philippine residence visa for my husband. Has anyone here applied for one or received one? Could you share your experiences and the correct application process? Thank you!!!

If you'll only be in the Philippines for a few months, traveling there together lets your spouse qualify for the 1-year 'balikbayan' visa. If you plan to live there permanently, you can apply for the 13(a) spouse visa at the Philippine consulate before you leave. That way you arrive with a permanent visa, and you can bring your household goods duty-free (excluding vehicles, ships, and aircraft). If you apply after arriving in the Philippines, you only get a 1-year temporary (probationary) visa, and you have to go through the whole application process again to get a permanent one.

Keep some extra money on hand in case you need to pay a bribe to an immigration officer. I did, and it cost me an extra 3,500 pesos.

Thanks to my Filipino wife, I've been living here for almost 20 years on a 13a immigration visa. The visa process wasn't a big hassle.
