Hello, my husband is American, and we're planning to apply for a 13A visa, but he's confused about whether this will affect his retirement pension.

My husband receives four retirement pensions and none of them were affected. He also got the 13A permanent resident visa. That visa is just a privilege that lets you stay in the Philippines while married to a Filipino, and it has no effect on citizenship.

It's the Balikbayan Privilege. You get it when you arrive at a Philippine airport with the right documents, and then you apply for the 13A within 12 months in the Philippines. We're going to do it at Pangasinan Dagupan. Search online for Balikbayan Privilege for details. It looks pretty simple. Apply for 13A within 12 months and that's it! Everything you need to know is online.

If you're married, why do you get that visa? There's a different visa for married people, and it's issued right away if you arrive together. It gets renewed if you leave the country once a year.
