You hit the wrong target.
It's kind of funny, but the staging is way too obvious.
Even if the staging is obvious, isn't it funny? All skits are staged, and so are sketches. I really don't get what the problem with staging is.
I think the problem only happens with comedy that pretends to be hidden camera but is actually staged. It gives off a feeling of being deceived. With skits like SNL or Whitest Kids You Know, it's different because you know they aren't trying to trick you.
Yeah, it's like a magician using an assistant. That alone is fine, but how the magic looks changes a lot once you reveal the assistant is in on it.
The feeling of being deceived is there because it actually is deception. If a skit is funny, there's no need to pretend it really happened. That's like a crutch. This video is exactly that. If it had been a clip from a sketch show, you'd wonder how it even made it on air. It's not that fun, and if it were in a writers' room, they'd say there wasn't enough there to shoot. But by showing it like a real situation, the audience feels like they're witnessing something genuinely spontaneous, and spontaneity is one of a comedian's key weapons. People laugh harder when they feel something truly surprising is happening. If you present a skit as if it's real, viewers watch it in a completely different frame of mind than if they knew it was a skit, so even something only mildly funny can be very effective at getting a laugh.
That's how they win awards, right?
What was the target supposed to be? That woman was just standing right in front of it, and anyone can see she's the target.
Actually, that was the correct target.
