We took Grandpa sightseeing in the city for a day trip, and the "sunglasses" he insisted on bringing turned out to be 3D movie glasses.
If this is real, it might be even worse than not wearing sunglasses at all. These don't block UV at all, and the pupils get bigger, so more UV can actually get in.
Yeah, seriously. He couldn't find his sunglasses, so he grabbed some glasses lying around the house, and he didn't realize they were movie glasses, not sunglasses.
Grandpa's real sunglasses are definitely in the return box at the theater entrance. : )
The EU has a law that even free sunglasses have to provide a certain level of UV protection because of this.
In North America, all sunglasses have to block UV, including free giveaways. The glasses in the photo aren't sunglasses or a free giveaway. They're something you have to return after the movie. I think it's less about the price and more about keeping people from using them as sunglasses.
That's a really bad idea. Even though the glasses are polarized, they don't filter UVA and UVB. Wearing them makes your pupils wider, so you get a lot more UVA/B, which can damage your eyes and cause cataracts.
That's true for most people, but realistically, Grandpa here doesn't have to worry about long-term UV damage anymore.
You'd look 3D wearing those!
Please give Grandpa a hug. I miss my grandpa.
No need to miss him, just search "reald 3d glasses" on eBay.
