Filipinos' Attitude Toward Local Destinations
This is just a light rant about how some Filipinos treat domestic travel spots. For example, someone posts photos of Occidental Mindoro, and the comments say it looks like it's abroad or like Patagonia, which I find really strange. I also saw a Zambales post where people said it looks like New Zealand, even calling it the "New Zealand of the Philippines" ???. I searched YouTube to see if there's similar treatment there, and "Santorini of Zambales" came up. I guess that one is probably for promotion.
Anyway, I find it interesting that there are some Filipinos who can't believe such beautiful places exist in the Philippines.
Maybe it's because I've been traveling around the country a lot lately, so my eye for the value of these places has changed (and I'm grateful I've been able to afford to do that).
But "the Singapore of the Philippines" is really on a different level, though.
Can't it just be beautiful on its own? Without comparing it to anything else. Things like "the Maldives of the Philippines, Singapore, Switzerland" are all nonsense.
Don't overthink it.
Isn't this just a common marketing tactic?... Other countries do it too... Macau is the Las Vegas of Asia, Suzhou is the Venice of the East, and so on...
