📌 According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) data as of Monday, October 5, 106 cities and municipalities nationwide have declared a state of calamity due to the dry spell and drought caused by El Niño. The number of affected residents stands at 388,375, with agricultural damage reaching PHP 5.56 billion.
■ What changes
· 106 cities and municipalities have been placed under a state of calamity.
· 388,375 residents have been affected, while the number of affected families varies by report (104,149 families according to GMA, 104,140 families according to BusinessMirror).
· About 200,000 farmers and fishermen have suffered losses, and agricultural damage is estimated at PHP 5.56 billion. The affected area varies by report (223,497 ha or 233,497 ha).
· Four cases of water supply interruption have also been reported.
■ Tips for residents and travelers
· The NDRRMC stated that El Niño could bring a dry season and drought with lower-than-average rainfall. Be sure to check notices regarding water service interruptions or reduced water pressure from your local water utility provider.
· It is a good idea to keep some bottled water and stored water on hand to prepare for sudden water interruptions.
