Dee posted a video explaining why you should never buy land or a house in the Philippines, and it's worth a watch!
Search for this on YouTube:
I Watch Expats Lose Their Homes Every Day. Here is exactly how.
Bottom line, you basically can't buy land there, and the workarounds probably won't work either.
In the end, the house goes to your Filipino wife and her family.
But if that's okay with you, since the house is going to her family anyway, you might as well buy land and build one lol
We've been married for 20 years and just bought land. I'm in my mid-50s, I have a daughter in her mid-30s, and no other family. I'm fine with the land going to my daughter and son. That's the plan.
He's right, but I already knew that years ago from watching people get burned.
Setting aside that buying land is 100% setting money on fire, think about this too. It's foolish to tie your capital up in land or a house when you're getting older. Whether you burn 100,000 dollars or invest it, the returns can easily cover your rent. Freedom of movement, freedom of choice. This is my advice not just for the Philippines but anywhere. Your health, income, and relationships can change in an instant. Isn't it better to keep your options open?
Wouldn't it be easy to take a house made from a container with you? I don't know if there are side loader trucks (trucks that load from the side) there, though.
