The crackdown is coming! I just told a guy he has no permit for his solar installation.

To everyone installing solar themselves: if you're going to do it, do it fast. Meralco and the other power companies want a piece of this.

Did you know anyone can report you by phone or anonymous letter if you don't have the proper permits or a proper electrician didn't do the work? So many people want solar, and so many plan to do it themselves. Hurry! A year from now it won't be easy.

Permits, in PH?
Joel Boettcher9

I can't believe I'm actually reading about permits in the Philippines…. 😳 Seriously? 🤨 😂😂😂

What the rules say
Mond Y Ra3

Under Department of Energy (DOE) Department Circular No. DC2026-08-0017, small micro-solar systems up to 1 kW and zero-export solar systems are exempt from local building permits and Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) certificates. Standard permit requirements Larger or grid-tied solar that doesn't fall under the recent exemptions still needs standard permits from the Local Government Unit (LGU) and the utility: • Barangay Clearance: initial local community clearance or notice. • Building Permit: structural review by the Office of the Building Official (OBO) to check roof load. • Electrical Permit: plans signed by a Professional Electrical Engineer (PEE) to ensure compliance with the Philippine Electrical Code. • Certificate of Final Electrical Inspection (CFEI): final safety inspection by the LGU. • Net-metering approval: application and technical review with your local distribution utility (such as Meralco) if you sell excess power.

Calling out fearmongering

This post is stupid fearmongering. Something like that would need Congress to step in and write a law letting power companies crack down on solar users, which is NOT their mandate. Meanwhile:

I put a 200W panel, a second battery and an inverter in my van, so now I have a mobile power station and can just run an extension cord into the house.

Bribes and oligarchs

Dumbest post about the Philippines I've read so far... no permits for anything here... just bribe your local officials. Got it?

Going to snitch?

I hope you're not planning to join the informers.
