Cockfighting: have you been?

Only been once. Of course I got kicked out for indecent exposure before I even got to compete...

Yeah, I've been to the arenas a few times and seen plenty of chicken fights in random provincial spots. The arenas have a cool energy, like a boxing match or an MMA fight. I don't care much for the 'sport' or the chickens killing each other, but I can kind of appreciate the spectacle. There's a lot of bloodlust in the air, and it's interesting.

No, sorry… I kind of think it's abhorrent, and I don't like using culture as a pass or an excuse for it. I'm a foreigner, so when in Rome, I don't argue about it with anyone, I just personally don't go.

I'm just days back from the rural Philippines and enjoyed early morning walks. Lots of residents were up early carefully tending their many roosters. They'd built structures to protect them, and the roosters' legs were tied to them. It was clearly a passion for them.

I like horse racing because there's a 'skill' and analytical side that makes it interesting. A taxi driver told me cockfighting is basically pure luck. More gladiatorial, if that's your thing.

I really want to go, but like everything else the schedule is a mystery. I think it'd be easier to find a cockfight in Paris than here
