Someone who casually hops across rocky terrain without a second thought
When I was 9, my family went to the Grand Canyon. A foot or two past the lookout there was a tall rock pillar covered in coins. I asked my dad to hold my hand so I could climb over the railing, cross the gap, and go up on that rock to pick up the coins. Dad said it was way too dangerous. I said I'd be careful! Dad looked me straight in the eyes and said, "That guy said the same thing last time." Nine-year-old me believed he was serious and my head went blank. Every time Dad tells this story, my eyes get really wide and I supposedly say, "Seriously!?" I still remember the shock and fear I felt as a kid, imagining someone saying "I'll be careful ooooooo..." and then falling to their death before they could finish the sentence.
My dad was like that too. He'd say, 'Your sister used to say that.' When I'd say, 'I don't have a sister,' he'd pretend to be sad and go, 'Not anymore...'
Right. I had a sister named "Suji" too, and she did everything she was told not to do... I got dumped on the side of the road, taken out with the trash, and dropped off at an animal hospital before going to a new home. It's amazing I came out this much intact.
No
A couple died from something like this a few years ago. https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2018/oct/30/yosemite-deaths-couple-selfie-vishnu-viswanath-meenakshi-moorthy
The risk is huge and there's no reward
That reminds me of the saying "The good news is they don't come by helicopter"
Oops, I didn't see the loose gravel over there. Well, can't be helped. My condolences.
Back when I was young and dumb, I crossed a glacier crevasse like this too. My crampons were a bit loose, so my boot came off, and I slid and landed on my belly on the far edge. If I hadn't had an ice axe, Mount Baker would have taken me. Now I'm scared my kids will be young and dumb like I was, and they won't have my luck.
