I only carry my passport when I'm entering or leaving the country or renewing my visa. I always carry my driver's license and my ACR card.

You should always have your passport or your card on you. Otherwise you could get into trouble and it can cause problems with your visa. If the police ask for it and you don't have it, you can be detained until you bring it.

The comments are interesting Ask the Bureau of Immigration (BI) directly You have to carry proof that you're staying legally. Your visa extension papers or the entry stamp in your passport show that. Check it out for yourself

I don't carry it. Instead I carry a small plastic legal passport version the size of a driver's license.
