Hello, I'm planning to visit the Philippines for 35 days, and I understand I'll need to extend my visa. Can I apply for the extension before arriving, or is it better to do it at the immigration office after I arrive? I'd also like to know the cost.
You can't do it before arriving, since you have to arrive first. You can only do it after you've arrived.
You can also do it in advance through the embassy in your own country. But if you have time, the airport is always very quiet. Or you can just do the online visa waiver. Including the express fee, it's 4,030 pesos.
You need an outbound flight ticket dated before your 30-day tourist visa ends, or you might not be allowed to enter. It's best to apply for the visa extension when about 2 weeks remain, since processing takes time.
You can get the 59-day visa in advance, but most people don't. Extensions have to be done inside the Philippines, and the first "extension" is called a visa waiver, which is 29 days (59 days total, same as the visa). You can do it at any immigration office, online, or, if you arrive at Manila Terminal 3, at the airport too. There's a dedicated immigration office on the 3rd floor(?). It's manageable if you have a long layover.
