Calm Before the Storm Update: Itbayat, Batanes, Morning of October 22, 2026
Right now Itbayat has strong winds but no heavy rain. Super Typhoon Champi is still approaching. It's expected to get close by nightfall.
The beauty and power of nature were unmistakable when we visited this Balanga port in Itbayat, Batanes. The waves were huge. A wave about as tall as a four-story building crashed against the port twice. The waves are so big, and the sea is already rough because of the incoming typhoon. The wind at the port is so strong it can really push people back. And in the sea mist, you can taste the sea breeze.
It made me feel small as a human being. Before nature, we're like ants. Let's pray for everyone's safety. I'm grateful the typhoon is passing a bit farther away. Thank God.
Before I even took the post seriously, the background music sounded like a JRPG, so it felt like walking into a dungeon to go meet the boss.
