We live in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu, and for my child's birthday we'd like to throw a feeding party for 50-100 poor kids in our neighborhood. I'm looking for a local charity we can connect with so we can do it somewhere safe and sanitary. Thank you!

The local parish church. Easy

I think you could try coordinating with the barangay staff. Ask them for permission, saying you want to hold a feeding program for 100 kids, and ask if you can use the barangay gym or any good spot with lots of kids as the venue. That way you can hold it somewhere safer. You handle all the food prep and so on, and the barangay takes care of the venue.

Trust the church? They're amazingly quiet about anything that costs money. Amazingly quiet about why God didn't stop the landslide or the typhoon, too. Not sure who I'd trust, but there are some very good barangay captains around, so find a good one.

We do this every Christmas, my best friend, my husband and me. I just cook the food, and keep it basic: spaghetti, fried chicken, sandwiches and packed juice, or chocolate drinks in tetra packs if there's extra budget. Hehe. If you can't find a local charity or orphanage, I suggest looking around your busy city. There are a lot of homeless kids. They need this food too. Drive around and hand it out. It'll mean more to your child if you want to show them what sharing is. Sometimes charities are already well funded. The homeless kids are the ones really suffering.

Organize it through a small local church. PM me. We have several churches we use when we do feedings.

What about the 101st kid who shows up? And the ones after that?
