Recommendations for a Retirement Destination

Hello,

I'd like to hear from expats who have already retired in the Philippines or are planning to.

If you could choose anywhere in the country to settle long-term, where would you pick? Please tell me why.

Here's what I'm most curious about:

Safety and low crime
Good healthcare and access to hospitals
Reliable internet and public utilities
Reasonable cost of living
A friendly local community
Modern amenities like shopping malls and restaurants
Low flood risk and good infrastructure
Overall quality of life

I currently live in Makati, but because of the congestion and the rent, I'd especially love to hear from people living in Cebu, Dumaguete, and the areas around Davao. Realistic firsthand experiences from people who actually live in those places would be great.

If you've already retired in the Philippines, where did you choose, and would you pick the same place again if you could choose again?

Are there also any areas that are commonly recommended but that you would personally avoid?

I look forward to your thoughts and experiences.

Thank you!

Come to Tarlac City. The new airport in Clark is close, and it's a middle-class area with friendly, chatty locals. Good housing, good private schools, and good healthcare with doctors from St. Luke's in Manila. I settled here 10 years ago and I'm very happy. P.S. The newly opened S&R membership store is a reason in itself. It's not owned by Costco in the US, it's an affiliate, and it sells premium fresh steaks and beer at some of the cheapest prices in the area.

Tagaytay Review

I'm close to forty and I chose Tagaytay. - Very little crime - Healthcare is a downside, you have to go to Alabang - Internet works - Cost of living depends on your needs - Friendly people - Malls and so on - No flooding where I am. I'm on top of a mountain, so the flooding happens farther down - Excellent quality of life, cool weather and stunning views - 1 to 1.5 hours to the airport
