12kg of shabu worth 81.6 million pesos seized at Batangas Port — Joint Coast Guard and PDEA operation, 4 arrested
📌 On Wednesday morning, October 7, at Batangas Port in Barangay Santa Clara, Batangas City, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), in a joint operation, seized approximately 12kg of suspected shabu (methamphetamine) with an estimated street value of 81.6 million pesos. Four men aged 18, 29, 30, and 41 were arrested at the scene.
■ Incident Details
· The PCG and PDEA conducted a joint operation at Batangas Port and recovered 12kg of suspected shabu.
· According to the PCG spokesperson, the four arrested individuals are residents of Malate, Manila and Maluso, Basilan.
· A vehicle, mobile phones, identification cards, and several ATM cards were also confiscated.
■ Investigation and Current Status
· The four suspects and the confiscated items were turned over to the PDEA, and legal proceedings are underway to charge them with violations of Section 5 (transportation of illegal drugs) and Section 11 (possession of illegal drugs) of Republic Act 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act).
· The PCG stated that it will continue its cooperation with the PDEA to prevent the transport of illegal drugs through ports and maritime routes.
■ Advice for Residents and Travelers
· Do not accept or carry luggage or items for strangers at ports or terminals. Even if you were unaware of the contents, you can still be held liable for transport and possession.
· The Philippines imposes very heavy penalties for drug transport and possession. Always pack your own luggage and keep it with you at all times.
