Latest update: The sea in Batanes has finally calmed down after Typhoon Champi/Rosal (2026.10.24)
The past few days were hard and unsettling, but now stillness has returned to the islands.
With the storm gone, Itbayat in Batanes is showing another kind of beauty. It's a quietly breathtaking reminder of nature's power and resilience. Rugged cliffs stand proudly before the endless blue sea, and the grasslands that were swaying in the wind are slowly finding their peaceful rhythm again under the vast northern sky.
It was truly an unforgettable experience, because we witnessed both the beauty and the harshness of nature. It's such a beautiful and mysterious place. The wide pastures on the Itbayat ridges made me feel like I was in New Zealand. I was in real awe of those plains.
I thank God that the typhoon didn't hit directly and that all the Ivatan people are safe.
