Balikbayan recommendations are confusing me
My husband and I are moving to the Philippines in January, and we want to ship about 15-20 boxes of personal items, clothes, and art supplies.
I've already read the posts about what is and isn't worth shipping, so please skip that kind of advice. What's confusing me is that I keep seeing people recommend shipping from the US in balikbayan boxes, but when I looked into it, I found that it's only for Filipinos. We're both Americans with no Filipino ancestry, and we plan to apply for an SRRV visa once we arrive.
So my question is: do balikbayan companies ship for SRRV holders too, under the $7,000 duty-free limit? Or is there another option for people who don't qualify for balikbayan benefits?
That's not true. Anyone can send a Balikbayan box.
As long as you have a real address in the Philippines, you can ship to yourself through LBC. It takes 4 to 6 months, but it does arrive. And there are no taxes because it's personal items or used personal items.
I just sent 9 XL boxes to my Filipina fiancée. It cost less than $900 including pickup. I used Atlas Shipping.
15 to 20 boxes is crazy unless you're a family of ten. Donate the clutter. There are plenty of stores in the Philippines. You don't need to bring it all.
