Automation
As a software engineer, I miss the spark too.
As a software engineer, it's sad that AI takes the parts of my job I love most and leaves me only the parts I hate.
As an artist, I agree. "Oh, we only use generative AI for concept art" That's the *most fun part of the process*, isn't it? The place where you can freely stretch your imagination based on what you're given?
Funny thing is, AI is bad at concept art. Big companies say "we only use it for concept art" just because they think that's a level they can get away with. AI is much better at polishing concept art that a real artist sketched, and then having the artist fix mistakes or make the necessary revisions. "We only use it for concept art" is ultimately an attempt to justify using fewer and fewer artists.
Nobody is stopping you from making art. Same goes for programming. If you love programming, go ahead and do it as much as you want.
Hi, this is Jack. The fourth panel is the biggest effort I've put into drawing since 1997. You can see more comics here: [www.smbc-comics.com](http://www.smbc-comics.com/)
The real enemy isn't automation but unethical companies and outdated regulations. Automation can be helpful if used well, and resources aren't shrinking, if anything it's the opposite. So people should ask themselves why they're getting screwed even though there are as many or more resources as before.
