In my family, holding out your hand and asking for money is shameful..

Reading the stories posted here about family members who act like they're entitled to it makes me so angry, more than I probably should be.

That's your wife?!? If a man is fulfilling his duty, shouldn't the wife's top responsibility and focus be her husband?

My parents' country went through a terrible war right before the two of them were born. Everyone worked themselves to the bone and made it, and plenty of them became millionaires. I don't think the extreme of never helping at all is good either, but I really wish some men would get it together and stop with the coward-pack behavior.

I'd rather be homeless than expect money as a given and shame my family. And my family is a dysfunctional mess that puts money and status above everything else. Even so, we're not the whiny "entitled" type I read about here every day. That kind of behavior is truly pathetic, selfish, and shameless.

Not wrong. Just don't get married, that way they can't hold you back. And if it gets to be too much, kick them to the curb. Finding a Filipina who wants to date a Westerner is as easy as finding air.

Don't tell me you found a Korean..? I'm not really disagreeing with the post, but the Philippines is the Philippines. It always has been and always will be. You don't change the Philippines, the Philippines changes you.

1. Move your family to the Philippines instead of the country they were born in and see how many millionaires come out of it. Opportunity is what matters. 2. You've clearly never been homeless. If anyone here is acting entitled in this story, it seems like it's you. 3. What kind of men are you even talking about?? 4. Wives don't abandon their parents just because they get married, especially in the Philippines. 5. Being a good person matters way more than money and status. Plus it's free.

I respect your perspective, but don't talk like Asian family bonds mean nothing. The Philippines went through Spanish colonization and then WWII (the US and Imperial Japan), and its cultural identity is still largely alive today. It survived wars and is surviving the current messy economic situation, and the fact that the Philippine economy hasn't rapidly collapsed or the currency turned into toilet paper is both impressive and sad. --- The same goes for other Southeast Asian countries and non-Middle Eastern Asian countries, which survived thanks to the very values you just insulted. China's extreme nationalist attitude and resilience start from there too. And with this post you also insulted the top 10-20 economic and manufacturing countries (~~most of them~~), since they share the same values. Honestly I'm not trying to insult you, but your country is at war. Here, despite the cultural and religious diversity, it's relatively peaceful. I don't think you're in a superior position. *Edited a lot, sorry. Mobile Reddit is way more annoying for me.
