Has anyone here made money online?
I didn't even know it was possible until I tried it myself.
Yes, it's definitely possible. My first business was a fully remote content agency. Later I got into stock and futures trading and investing. In my opinion, there's nothing better than this. All you need is a computer and internet. No clients or employees needed, no traditional scaling limits, and no one to answer to but yourself. Of course, trading is extremely hard to learn and do well. But the rewards, flexibility, and convenience are hard or impossible to match in other fields.
It's possible, but it's getting harder. 1. Because of tax laws, most companies want remote workers to be within their own country. 2. There are more people who want to work online than there are online jobs. 3. Don't expect to find remote work after you move abroad; set it up before you go. Some people think online English teaching is easy, but it isn't anymore. Every platform hiring tutors is flooded with them, so it's a race to the bottom: only a tiny few earn good money, and the rest struggle just to fill their teaching hours. On top of that, you're competing with Filipino tutors on the same platforms who accept $2 an hour.
Yes. I'm not there yet, but I'm leaving at the end of this month after a lot of planning. Since I set my own working hours, the time difference won't be a problem.
Yes, I've been working remotely for about 15 years. I started remote work long before I decided to live in the Philippines for a while. And as you said, it's usually 'hard work.' You're judged on good results, and since nobody cares whether you're at your desk and only looks at the results, you have to keep pushing to stay useful. Still, I've always preferred this over 'office-based' work.
