I had a real ordeal at the airport. The check-in agent didn't know the immigration rules well and kept insisting that I needed a return ticket to the US. I had an onward ticket to Hong Kong, but they kept saying I still had to have a return flight to the US.

If you need more help, be sure to talk to the on-site manager or supervisor. It just has to be an onward ticket out of the Philippines, and it doesn't have to be to the US.

A pointless policy

It's a really stupid policy these days. You can stay here for up to 3 years, so it's so pointless. Long-term travelers help the economy much more than people on a one-week package tour. They should give at least 90 days on entry.

Instead of buying an 'onward ticket', I buy a real ticket and avoid the problem very easily. It's not much more expensive and it's valid. And the destination doesn't matter, as long as it's outside the Philippines and somewhere you can go without an additional visa.

Nobody in the Philippines knows the rules. I've been stopped by the police several times and heard 3324 different rules about foreign licenses. Gcash was useful too!
