Location & Getting There — Located in the center of Bacolor town (Cabambangan), about a 40-minute drive from Angeles via San Fernando.
History — Built in 1576 by Augustinian friars, the church was rebuilt following earthquakes in 1880 and 1897. Following the 1991 Pinatubo eruption, subsequent lahar flows buried the church up to half its height on September 3, 1995, forcing residents to relocate. Instead of being excavated, the church was left in its buried state and mass continues to be held there today.
Highlights — Due to the lahar raising the ground level, visitors now uniquely enter and exit through what was originally the second-floor level. Inside, the gilded Baroque and Rococo main altar (retablo), side altars, and pulpit remain intact.
Tips for Visitors — Admission is free and donations are voluntary. Refrain from taking photos during mass, and it is courteous to avoid sleeveless shirts and short shorts. Check the official Facebook page for mass times.
