Located at the summit of Mount Samat in Pilar, Bataan, this World War II memorial shrine (Shrine of Valor) features a massive roughly 95-meter cross, a colonnade, and an underground museum.

Location & Directions — It is situated near the summit of Mount Samat (about 555 meters above sea level) in Barangay Diwa, Pilar, Bataan. From Angeles and Clark, take SCTEX, exit at Dinalupihan, head south along the Roman Superhighway, turn right at the Pilar-Alauli intersection, and drive up about 7 km of winding uphill roads along Mount Samat Road. For public transportation, take a bus to Balanga, catch a jeepney to the foot of the mountain, and then hire a tricycle to go up. It is located on the way to Las Casas (Bagac), making it great to visit together.
Highlights — A memorial shrine honoring the Filipino and American soldiers who fought in the Battle of Bataan during World War II. The approximately 95-meter memorial cross features an observation deck accessible by elevator at its arms (74 meters above ground), offering views of Manila Bay and the Bataan Peninsula. There is a colonnade with a marble altar and battle reliefs, as well as an underground museum.
Admission — Official government rates are not publicly posted. Based on 2025–2026 visitor reviews, admission is around ₱30–50 per person, about ₱25 for seniors, and parking is around ₱40–50. The elevator to the cross used to be ₱10, but an April 2026 visit report noted that the cross and museum were closed for renovations (scheduled for completion in 2027), so be sure to check if they are open before buying tickets.
Tips — Operating hours vary by source (official management info is daily 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM with last entry at 4:00 PM, while Google Maps lists Mondays closed and Tue–Sun 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM), so checking in advance is necessary. Around April 9 each year for the Day of Valor (Araw ng Kagitingan), it may close for a few days due to event preparations (closed April 5–9, 2025). There is little shade, so bring water, a hat, and sunscreen. During the rainy season, the mountain roads are slippery and have many sharp curves, so drive with caution.
