This is a pork soup rice (dwaeji-gukbap) restaurant on the 1st floor of Mugunghwa Shopping Center 2 in Korea Town on Friendship Highway in Angeles. It opened in early 2024, and several blog posts say the owner personally boils the pork and makes the pressed pork slices (pyeonyuk). According to a 2024 blog post, it brings the same flavor as the restaurant of the same name in Jinhae, Gyeongnam.
The broth is milky white but not heavy, and the most common comment is that it is clear and mild, with no porky smell. Since it is served with almost no seasoning, several reviews say diners adjust it to their taste with the salted shrimp, salt, pepper, and chili powder on the table. Many say side dishes like kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi), seokbakji (mixed radish kimchi), seasoned garlic chives, and pickled perilla leaves go well with the soup rice. Several reviews also mention that ordering soup rice comes with a small taste of pyeonyuk on the side, so even solo diners can try it. The place is spacious and clean, and reviews say both solo diners and families eat comfortably there; one review warns that the earthenware pot (ttukbaegi) comes out very hot, so be careful.
The signature dish is the basic pork soup rice, and many customers choose the mixed soup rice (seokkeo gukbap) with several cuts of meat. Pork, lean meat, offal, mixed, and badger-style (osori) soup rice, as well as spicy soup rice and noodle dishes, are all ₱400, and an extra bowl of rice is ₱50. Many say the basic soup rice has plenty of meat, but one review said the lean meat soup rice had disappointingly little meat. Many reviews recommend pairing the soup rice with the tender, odor-free pyeonyuk or suyuk (boiled pork) and a drink of soju. Pyeonyuk is ₱300 for small and ₱800 for large, suyuk is ₱1,000, and jokbal (pig's trotters) is ₱1,800. The assorted suyuk set, which serves suyuk, pyeonyuk, and jokbal together, is ₱2,000. There are also spicy stir-fried pork (jeyuk bokkeum), chive pancake, and kimchi pancake, and soju is ₱250, beer is ₱100, and sikhye (sweet rice drink) is ₱80.
Reviews say many customers come to cure a hangover the morning after drinking or for a hearty breakfast. According to Google Maps popular times, Sunday nights from 9 to 10 PM are the busiest, and Thursdays and Fridays are also crowded around 10 PM. Tuesdays and Wednesdays are relatively quiet, even in the evening. According to Google Maps, takeout and reservations are available.
According to Google Maps, there is a free parking lot and free street parking, and one review says the parking lot is large and easy to get to by car. The entrance and seating are wheelchair accessible. A PTT gas station is about 50 m away, the Starbucks Friendship Highway branch is about 100 m away, 7-Eleven and KFC are about 150 m away, and Bethesda Hospital Angeles is about 200 m away.
