Unpopular opinion: Metro Manila isn't that bad! 😎

🎵In Manila

Concrete jungle where dreams are made

There's nothing you can't do

Now you're in Manila

These streets will make you a new person

The bright lights will inspire you

Give it up for Manila

Manila, Manila 🎵

😁😁😁

After two years here, I've come to appreciate the opportunities Metro Manila gives me as a tourist. There are good places to live comfortably, with every amenity the Philippines has to offer. The airport is just a cheap Grab ride away. You know what I mean? It isn't that bad if you know the place and what to do.

No tax on foreign income, English is an official language, and there are still good girls around. The locals look out for me. I have friends from all walks of life: friends with dozens of guns, police connections, pastors, ordinary workers.

I don't want to start a culture war or a debate over whether Manila, Cebu, Vietnam or Thailand is more your thing.

Just a positive note that you can enjoy life wherever it works for you! Have a great day, expats!

Same here. I like it there.

Flaws over time

I've been here about two years too, and the longer you stay, the more flaws you start to see. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy being here and see it as a privilege, but some things are hard to overlook. As a foreigner I can buy my way into a better quality of life, but there are things money can't buy here. One of them is time. This city constantly wastes your time. Whether it's the government, the traffic, or nonsensical rules and regulations, your time will get wasted. That's why my girlfriend and I will probably leave the city, if not the country altogether. We'll probably live slower lives with less to do, but at least our time will be more on our own terms, if that makes sense. But if the city makes you happy and you enjoy being here, all the best to you. Just different ways of living.

Sorry, but the 'dozens of guns' part earns you a downvote from me. I don't want to be somewhere that having lots of guns counts as a plus.

Clark is better

Manila is awesome during, say, the Easter holiday.... Traffic is the biggest problem for me personally, I end up feeling trapped. Clark suits me better. No traffic, an international airport, and so on.

Prefer laid-back

Some people absolutely love it, and I hope those people keep loving it. I prefer a more chilled, laid-back lifestyle myself. Hope people aren't struggling too much with Reddit. If you can't get on, just use a VPN or set one up in advance.
