A dependable eSIM for Coron

Hi all,

I'm posting because I'm having a hard time finding reliable info, so hopefully this is the right place.

I'm heading to the Philippines soon. Half the trip will be in Coron, the other half in and around Manila. I'm looking for an eSIM with decent coverage in both areas.

I don't need much beyond data for the length of the trip (10 days). I'm not worried about texts or calls since I'll mostly use WhatsApp. I mainly need it for translation and for banking access just in case (I'd rather not log into anything finance-related on hotel wifi). I'm not really expecting data while island hopping.

Any recommendations? So far I've looked at Saily, Airalo and Ubigi. Cost isn't a big concern, I'd rather go with something reputable than something niche.

Thanks!

- Also, unrelated to the title, but I'm happy to hear any other general recommendations!

As general info: none of the travel eSIM companies build their own network, so Saily, Airalo and Ubigi all depend on the coverage of whatever network they partner with. In the Philippines there are really only two networks. Globe or Smart. So a better way to frame this is to ask people who've been to Coron recently whether there was any real difference between the two networks, or how their network did while in Coron, and then check whether the travel eSIM you're considering uses that carrier. Someone also mentioned getting a SIM at the airport. Totally doable. But I'd still find out which network is better first. FWIW, I've personally been using Roamless. It's a travel eSIM, but you can reuse the same eSIM across different countries, and your credit carries over and doesn't expire (they have plans with expiry too, which are better value per GB). They state clearly that they connect to both Globe and Smart 3G, 4G LTE and 5G networks. Would be interesting to hear from people who've been to Coron lately about which network is better.

More reputable, less niche? Buy a physical SIM at the airport and they'll register it for you. With SMART, for example, 30 days of unlimited data, calls and texts. About 2k PHP and they do it all for you.

No one has covered the eSIM side yet, so here's what's on sale for a 10-day trip (only plans valid for at least 10 days, prices checked Sept 7-15, 2026): - Airalo: 5 GB / 15 days $11.50 · 10 GB / 15 days $18.50 · 20 GB / 15 days $28.50 · unlimited 10 days $34.50 - Saily: 5 GB / 30 days $11.99 · 10 GB / 30 days $18.99 · 20 GB / 30 days $29.99 - Holafly: unlimited 10 days $36.50 I haven't tested coverage in Coron myself, so I can't rank them for the islands. The airport SIM GE963 suggested is the other realistic option, and it gives you a local number, which these eSIMs won't. Since you mentioned banking, here's one thing that trips people up: a lot of bank apps text the login or transfer code to your home number. A data-only eSIM can't receive those. If your phone takes two SIMs, keep your home line on for texts with data roaming off, and check with your carrier what it costs to receive texts abroad. Other practical tips: - Install the eSIM at home over wifi, and switch it on when you land. - Download offline Google Maps for Coron and Manila, plus the offline language pack in Google Translate, for stretches with no signal. - Buy a plan whose validity covers all 10 days; a 7-day plan runs out before you leave. (For transparency: I run an eSIM shop, so I'm not neutral on brands. That's why I've stuck to price lists here.)
