Any free VPNs you'd recommend, if there are any?

I just want to talk to my friends, I really don't want to pay for a VPN on top of that😭😭

A free VPN means you're the product

Proton VPN works well, but it picks the country for you.

Just pay for Surfshark. I paid about 48 dollars for 2 years

What do you need it for? I've never felt I needed one, but I do have it as an option on two of my browsers for geo-locked content

From what I've read it's mostly DNS-based. I run adguardhome with mostly quad9 DNS as the upstream resolver. That way I don't have to deal with the lag a VPN can add.
