Sorry in advance if this has been asked and answered a million times, but I'm new here. I'm trying to sort out health insurance and the quotes I'm getting are ridiculous. Any recommendations for a 63-year-old man? I'm in the Philippines right now and need to get covered ASAP. Thanks in advance for kind replies.

Start with PhilHealth and enroll in their YAKAP program. It's 17,000 pesos a year. Definitely worth it. Then, if you can, self-insure for whatever it doesn't cover. Basically, set aside money for medical expenses in a high-yield savings account (HYSA). That's what I'm doing

If you have an urgent need right now: no real insurer will cover a pre-existing condition from day one. It's like buying fire insurance after your house has burned down.

If it's something you have to see a doctor for, I'd fly to Guam and see one there. You can use your Medicare there.

Ian, if you open the group chat and search Health Insurance, you'll get every post ever made. People are getting fed up answering because the question gets asked 10 times a week
